So we thought we’d kick this new initiative off with a fun holiday themed blog post, our favorite holiday beverages!
Dena's Holiday Spirit!
Our fearless leader Dena loves to celebrate the holidays in style with a cold, crisp sparkling wine or champagne, specifically of the orange label variety.
A bottle of Veuve Clicquot paired with a side of cooked Dungeness crab!
Ryan's Top Holiday Favorite!
A classic beverage for a classy guy! Egg Nog has been a part of our holiday traditions for generations, our grand parents enjoyed it, our parents served it and we have learned to love it! Okay, maybe not everyone, it is an acquired taste but one that truly represents this festive time of year!
4 egg yolks
1/3 cup sugar, plus 1 tablespoon
1 pint whole milk
1 cup heavy cream
3 ounces bourbon
1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
4 egg whites*
In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat the egg yolks until they lighten in color. Gradually add the 1/3 cup sugar and continue to beat until it is completely dissolved. Add the milk, cream, bourbon and nutmeg and stir to combine.
Place the egg whites in the bowl of a stand mixer and beat to soft peaks. With the mixer still running gradually add the 1 tablespoon of sugar and beat until stiff peaks form. Whisk the egg whites into the mixture. Chill and serve.
Our Office Coordinator Essence is partial to an exotic South American cocktail called the Pisco Sour. This festive beverage is lovingly made with Peruvian Pisco as the base liquor and adds Key lime (or lemon) juice, syrup, ice, egg white, and Angostura bitters.
The perfect beverage for an elegant evening out or a cozy night by the fire!
Ben's Go-To Holiday Beverage!
Rounding out the holiday beverage favorites, Ben has picked a local favorite turned national hit, the Starbucks Peppermint Mocha.
This balanced blend of caffeinated beverage, sweet peppermint and frothy steamed milk will warm you up on the coldest of days.
And as for me, my favorite holiday beverage is a Hot Buttered Rum. This recipe is from the late Mother of a dear friend who would make this for us every holiday season.
It’s one of those beverages that brings back wonderful memories with very special people.
Here’s to you Kath!
Here is the recipe:
3 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter
3 Tbsp honey
1 Tbsp rum extract
1 Tbsp vanilla extract
1 tsp ground nutmeg
1 tsp ground allspice
1 tsp ground cinnamon
To Make Hot Buttered Rum Mix:
1. Mix the ingredients using a beater until everything is blended together.
2. Store in a well-sealed jar in the refrigerator until needed.
To Make a Hot Buttered Rum drink:
1. Pour 1 1/2 ounces of light or dark rum into an Irish coffee glass or mug.
2. Add a heaping spoonful of the hot buttered rum mix.
3. Fill with hot water (not boiling).
4. Stir well.
Beth's Holiday Favorite!
From our newest member of the team Beth an amazingly unique and beautiful beverage called
Spiced Cider Margaritas!
In the age of hand crafted cocktail mixology this is a not-to-miss beverage of champions!
I can’t wait to try it!
5 ounces spiced apple cider (If you can’t find spiced cider, you can always spice your own.)
½ teaspoon lemon juice
.5 ounces Grand Marnier
1.5 ounces mescal or gold tequila
For garnish: (optional)
2 tablespoons raw sugar
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1.Start by rimming the glass. In a small bowl, combine the raw sugar and cinnamon. Pour a splash of Grand Marnier into a separate bowl. Dip the rim of the glass in the Grand Marnier to moisten it, and then immediately dip the glass in cinnamon sugar. (You’ll have enough cinnamon sugar for about 4-5 cocktail glasses.)
2.Pour all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake until well combined. Pour over ice into your rimmed cocktail glass and serve. (Garnish with an apple slice, a cinnamon stick, and a dash of ground cinnamon if you like!)
